Say, did voxfeax manage to arive, or did he get arrested in the airport like that last time in Germany? :P

Ok, I'll go now and inform eliot that something's has gone wrong.
Voxfreax is alive and having fun at the party. :)

Nice party as usual.
I ll release my 4k in few days, I need to include missing pictures done after the comp deadline.
Thanks again for all the participants to this 4k who made everything during the party (tom&jerry, grim, beb, voxfreax, ced).
5 crews for a 4k, this is record to beat ;)

congrats to the other participants and bigger congrats to the othe comp winners (Rex, I'll bring your price in Greece next month).

I hope that everybody had a nice time at ReSeT!

Yeah where can we see the classement ?

am I last ?
Austria MaV - 24 June 2012 - 20:25:52 79 posts
Very nice party!

Meeting you guys was absolutely necessary in trying to understand the French scene. Besides it's nice to see so many friendly, helpful and active CPC sceners in one place. :)

@Grim: Sorry. What I wanted to say was: I was having fun watching Voxfreax turturing himself while calculating and placing circles upon circles upon circles. At least now I know that he can endure a lot of pain. :D
Greece rexbeng - 24 June 2012 - 21:14:12 132 posts
Say, since there were so many entries for graphics and music, wouldnt it be better to pack them all together in a "music&graphics" disk instead of releasing every screen and every tune as seperate files?

@krusty: what prize? Bring a bottle of whine instead :P

nice idea... a sweet diaporama disk... well not since it would be single loading even on a 6128... and no PLUS pictures available for CPC old.

(I wanted to do a CPC old version of my picture anyway... will do perhaps but lots of work on the palette and repixeling too... as I used many greys and browns...ouch...)

11 graphic contestants (according to the party site).
that's far more than 176K provided some (many ?) were most probably in overscan (mine, to begin with).

Very nice party, thanks to all the people for coming from far locations, proving that motivation is not a question of kilometers!

Nice party ! Vanity team defeated me at the R-type challenge :-(. My revenge will be terrible :-).

MaV, I hope the party was not too frustrating for you. We have really (and especially me) have to make huge improvements in english...
France PulkoMandy - 24 June 2012 - 21:26:57 633 posts
overscan pics can be packed, usually down to 8Kb or so, that's no problem

Since pics and musics were required to be executables, it should be easy to setup a menu in BASIC with rankings.

Tom&Jerry: Don't worry. I will try to improve my French as well, written I can understand enough, but spoken French is very difficult to follow.
BUT: It was a small victory for me that I understood today's conversation between totO, you and the other guys about the high prices on ebay. :) (or am I wrong?)

haha, whining...
anyway, normandy is actually not really a wine area... more into cider and calva or chouchen (merd comment ça s'écrit ?)...

MaV said: written I can understand enough, but spoken French is very difficult to follow.

well, put on some CPCs in network and load some chat application, problem solved...(less convivial I guess bbut so geeky...)

Mav : you are right ! But it was easy, it's unfortunately a very common topic of complains for all 8bits computer fans :-).

By looking this post http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/demos/reset-8-compositions-and-results/msg46845/#msg46845, I think it could be better for people participating in remote to add a small 4/5 lines text to explain a bit the life of the pic (easier to understand the pic, verify if it is a transfer and so on).

Austria MaV - 24 June 2012 - 22:24:13 79 posts
:D Well, I have to start with easy common topics. Nevertheless, I was (almost) able to follow sentence by sentence, when normally I was only able to make out specific words and therefore could not connect them to make out the meaning. I think I will have to watch a bit more of Arte and TV5 until the next time. ;)

Krusty: no, thanks to you, grrrr....

well, depends what level of transfer counts.
my picture is clearly a reinterpretation of a famous rembrandt paint...
I first did the foreground, keeping most of the composition of the original.

but the original paint was a bit lacking on the background so I had to do the rest after, separately.

concerning the Foreground, the original paint have a lot of darkzones with almost nothing exploitable, while I aimed at a "comic styled" thing...

the hands and positions/proportions and the book (right corner) are quite faithfull to be true. but he actual transfert is mostly for a few lines, proportions and shapes, all pixelising and textures having been quite heavily redone, with the original picture displayed on another window (I have 2 monitors on my PC).

For the dark trenchcoat of the inquisitrix, I used a miror and my own leather trenchcoat (positioning myself like on the picture) to try to get nice drapés...
All the clothing/drapés are from scratch too.
the whole table (marble effect) and the "isometric Amstrad is completely from scratch.
for the background I was inspired by some pictures of romane architectures of course. used a few lines and curves then completely repixeled all this.

considering the low resolution you still have to redo all of the stuff anyway by hand.

the 40k designs were also obviously heavily inspired from Warhammer 40K universes and illustrations.

but considering the heavy amount of original stuff and pixeling, I don't think it is a straight transfer, or is it ?
Tortuga Grim - 25 June 2012 - 00:10:46 521 posts
And that was 4/5 lines of text! :)

In my opinion, no, your picture clearly doesn't qualify as an evil transfer. (= where most of the work is done by some automatized image reduction/dithering software on a random picture ripped from teh intertubes)

You passed! Congratz! :)

Nice Party. Thanks to Eliot for still keeping the spirit and organize this event.
France MacDeath - 25 June 2012 - 00:21:07 179 posts
to be fair, some ditherings were done thx to paint.net...
I had to juggle between both graphix2 and paint.net in order to have tools from both...
Paint.net have some sweet "select colour" and "fill in with 50/50 ditherings" and so on...(worked with 1/1 pixels so sometimes I had to enlarge the picture to see how it was supposed to look).

Graphix2 on the other hand have a sweet "2x1 pixel setting and nice palette management.
convimgCPC was used actually to verify if the picture final passed on the CPC/PLUS format and to try to get it into a Dsk/executable.
finally JavaCPC was the key to suck-cess.

I will perhaps post the various sources I used as inspirations, but just "google pictures" at "adeptus mechanicus" in google, and also "anatomie rembrandt" of course, and romane/gothic arc/ogive/chapel

To Toto : I have just listened to the Amiga release of Cybernoid 2 intro tune. Ixien has done a perfect job as the faultly notes are in the Amiga tune ! Anyway, the Atari ST release is better in my opinion :-).
France TotO - 25 June 2012 - 11:06:51 127 posts
The ST version is not "better", just you know first only this version. It is not accurate, because sounding different as the original.
An interpretation to avoid musical difficulty to translate it. Instead of the Amiga and C64 tunes (sounding the same), the "faultly" notes are on the ST version, and not only on the first part but during all the tune. A shame, I can't ear that more longer. :)

at last thsoe are available.

I like the winner (FED), because I like Mode1 and the disign is nice too.

the #2 (Eightball) is quite comic and démo styled (the logos...) but well executed in the dithering, shapes and palette effort and I like Lobo comics/character (obvious inspiration here).. Sadly it tells no story or situation. but realy is in the spirit of demoscene i guess.

but honestly, the #3 disapointed me a bit... it is a straight "transfer" with just a fancy interlaced effect and demoish transitions into the picture... yet the picture is nice and fun I must admit.

I guess I should have found a little extra time to do a more fine and precise finish lavish of my picture...
Sadly I had to find a way to get it executable in Basic and manage to actually send it to you... And I found the picture idea quite lately.

I'm proud because my picture actually try to tell a figurative story, not just plain graphics.
even if the story is not quite obvious if you don't know warhammer 40K or the what story the picture is supposed to represent.
I wish I were here to explain, argue and vote for myself.. ^_^.

so the debate is the classic one between Demo culture (effects, graphics patchwork) or actual storytelling (figurative in all ways).

will you put those at Pouët ?
